BNP Out of Brick Lane

In 1993 Derek Beacon, A candidate for the racist BNP party won the Millwall by-election on the Isle of dogs. The BNP’s share of the vote rose from 20% to 33.9%. Following the victory the community mobilised to prevent the BNP from selling their newspapers at the top of Brick Lane on Sundays. These photographs show the strength of the demonstration which finally cleared the BNP from Brick Lane for good.
