East One Exhibition at the Bishopsgate Institute

November 17, 2012

I recently curated an exhibitio called ‘East One’. It explores the lives and environment of people living on the fringe of the City around Petticoat Lane and Spitalfields Market. The images are exhibited at Bishopsgate Library alongside an online exhibition. The show is part of this years Photomonth 2012.

The exhibition features work by Deborah Aitken, Andrew Grainger, Abdul Hamid, Nigel Madhoo, Alison Philcock and Amiri Shongeeth. You can explore each photographers work by clicking here.

East One gets under the skin of the East End and reveals the unexpected through six thirsty sets of eyes. This is the beginning of a new dynamic archive which will be a point of reference for future generations. Sponsored by the Bishopsgate Institute and produced by Mercadito Productions this years work represents the beginning of a sustainable initiative; the photographers involved will be founding a collective which will work to produce future exhibitions and other initiatives which will introduce more people to photography.
