Merseyside Pensioners Say Don’t Switch Us Off!
Scores of pensioners marched in Liverpool yesterday to support the campaign to protect the free TV licence for those over 75. They were highlighting the decision by the BBC to withdraw the universal free TV licence presently given to all pensioners over 75. Many rely on TV for news and entertainment and will be unable to meet the cost of a license currently costing £154.50 per year. British pensions are the lowest in all OECD Countries and TV licence exemption for the over 75s is a lifeline for thousands of older people who are disabled or caring for disabled relatives at home. For many it helps to combat loneliness. Merseyside Pensioners Association have committed to a campaign not to pay the TV licence and believes the government should fund the over 75s’ licence.

What the British government want to do is cruel and thoughtless! If the want pensioners to pay for a licence, then start paying then a decent pension, aligned with European countries! Why are British pensions so miserly? Must. Be because those who make the decisions know they will be well off in retirement and still get the extra little bit as a bonus!
It is a pity more people didn’t hear about your plan to demonstrate in Liverpool.
The demonstrators need to be advertised more?
Keep up the good work! It’s not right what the BBC are doing and the government is leaving them to it!
