Bath in the Kitchen and City Bonuses
There is probably no greater example of the gulf that exists in this country between the rich and the poor than the Holland Estate and the City with its banks and bonuses for its bosses. The Holland Estate remains defiant as it snuggles up next to the the boundary of the City of London. Over the years the social housing on the estate has been greatly improved. Despite this the incomes of the occupants on the estate remain stubbornly low with the majority of the children in receipt of free school meals. I remember first photographing the Estate in 1984 and recall my amazement that the bathroom also doubled with the kitchen. When the bath wasn’t being used a lid was placed over it to create a table and space for food preparation.
