Don’t Fade Away

Large cities provide the illusion that we are never alone and always close to another human being. Paradoxically the lighting, architecture and spatial design in a city can also create imagery which suggests distance and isolation.

A feeling of isolation can also become a feature of the underground.

As for the person in the boat below it is likely the experience is one characterised by peace and perhaps a feeling of harmony with nature; the antithesis of alienation in the city.
