River Thames From The Air
Taking photographs from a passenger plane is precarious at the best of times. Unpredictable aircraft movement, clouds, constantly changing light and the distortion from porthole glass offer less than perfect conditions for aerial photography. Unlike departing aircraft, there are no set routes leading to the final approach for aircraft arriving at Heathrow; neither are there any noise limits or fixed heights. This is because arriving aircraft approach in a random pattern and then have to be sequenced to ensure safe separation. These photographs were taken recently on board an internal flight from Manchester to Heathrow. Presented in the sequence they were taken it’s as if the river was acting like a beacon for the pilot. Look out for Battersea power station and other landmarks.
