In Defence Of The Irish Republic
Formed in 2013, the Liverpool Easter 1916 Commemoration Committee set out to record and commemorate the women and men of Liverpool Irish community who fought in defence of the Irish Republic during the Easter Rising in Dublin 1916. Last Sunday saw the culmination of 4 years of work with the public unveiling at St Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Scotland Road, Liverpool of a permanent memorial listing the individual names of the Liverpool Irish volunteers who participated in the Rising.

Ray Chen Storms Liverpool
Ray Chen performed twice this week with the Liverpool Philharmonic orchestra. He gave an extraordinary performance of Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto in a concert that finished off with Stravinsky’s Petrushka. The ‘Phil’ is the musical proof of why Liverpool is the centre of the known universe. Ray Chen captivated the audience with his mastery of the 1715 ‘Jochim’ Stradivarius violin that is on loan to him and was once owned by Joseph Joachim.
