Bernard Kops
A couple of months ago I had the pleasure of filming the delightful British dramatist, poet and novelist Bernard Kops. Born in the East End in 1926 Bernard was giving a reading at the launch of an exhibition organised by the Sandys Row Synagogue. He treated his audience to readings from his poetry and novels. We will be using the footage for our next film about the East End (www.eastendlives.co.uk). The event was facilitated by the photographer Jeremy Freedman. Our film (no working title yet) will be launched at the East End film festival in July.
Out Shopping
I wonder how many times the lady in this photograph (below) has been out shopping? She must have been to a tremendous variety of shops before supermarkets were even invented.
In The Bag
I often speculate about what people have in their bags. A brief case can disguise sandwiches, newspapers or lap top computers. Many of us wouldn’t dream of going out without a bag. Here we have a variety of bags.
