The Forgotten War for Bangladesh

November 5, 2011

The birth of Bangladesh was a bloody and painful process. I photographed the murals below in Dhaka in 1991.

Mile End Madonna

November 4, 2011

Mile End Station pulls underground passengers to its entrance and retains a minority of them as they emerge from their journey to wait for a friend. When I saw the Lady below waiting for a friend I was reminded of the enclosed statues of the Madonna I was introduced to as a child. The Mile End Madonna fortunately isn’t the product of mythology.

Cycling, Walking and pushing

November 3, 2011

I have been to meetings on my estate where discussions around parking disintegrated into a shouting match. I have never owned a car and have always thought that London requires its population to walk, cycle or push like the two elegant ladies below.

Osborn Street runs directly into Brick Lane and in recent years has been a shabby cousin of ‘the Lane’. The passing cyclists designer bike and white high heels is undoubtedly on her way to a chicer place than Osborn Street!

New Brick Lane Images

November 2, 2011

In the first edited digitised images I have provided to the Bishopsgate Institute there are a few early 1980’s shots of Brick Lane. Much of what you see below has now disappeared entirely.

Underground

October 31, 2011

I have just finished editing the first disk of images from the Bishopsgate Institute who are digitising my negative collection. Eventually the entire collection will rest with the Institute which will place my edited images online. The first disk contained about 12 rolls of film. Below are a few of my favourites. I’ll let you see more during the week.
