New Brick Lane Images

November 2, 2011

In the first edited digitised images I have provided to the Bishopsgate Institute there are a few early 1980’s shots of Brick Lane. Much of what you see below has now disappeared entirely.

I have just finished editing the first disk of images from the Bishopsgate Institute who are digitising my negative collection. Eventually the entire collection will rest with the Institute which will place my edited images online. The first disk contained about 12 rolls of film. Below are a few of my favourites. I’ll let you see more during the week.

Fight For Our Rights

October 29, 2011

Some years ago I interviewed Tony Benn (below) for our film ‘Not In Our Name’. It was a wide ranging interview with a man who has always been generous with his time when it comes to supporting Labour movement causes. As president of the Stop The War campaign he has spoke at hundreds of meetings across the UK and abroad. I remember him saying that each generation has to fight to protect the gains achieved by the previous generation. Looking through my archive I can see just how true that is …

Loads & Loads of Coppers

October 28, 2011

‘You can never find a policeman when you want one’ so the saying goes. Well you can always find one if a group of fascists decide to have a romp in Tower Hamlets. The three photographs below were taken around 1983 when the fledgeling BNP decided to have a meeting at John Scurr Primary School in Stepney.

The first two photographs show the police having a tactics briefing and the third shows ‘Dino’ who is about to infiltrate the police as an anti fascist undercover secret agent. Well done Dino!
