Breaking the Rules
Breaking the rules in photography is essential if you are to make any progress. A camera is simply a tool enabling the photographer to capture light. Experimentation with shutter speeds and apertures is essential if you are to produce images that explore light, time and movement.

Hand Carts and Variations
Hand carts of various descriptions have been integral to the movement of goods in markets and their surrounding areas for thousands of years. The young man eating his lunch at Whitechapel market is flanked by two traditional hand carts. They are probably around a hundred years old but have now disappeared altogether from East London markets to be replaced by much less reliable trollys.

Brick Lane Trolleys
It would appear that the boy pushing the trolley down Brick Lane has been introduced to the logistics of the family business at an early age. No doubt by the time he is 16 he will have a comprehensive knowledge of the trade the numerous goods on his trolley are associated with.

The man pushing the trolley below has a much lighter load comprising of a single wooden palette. The destination could be an art show or bar. It’s a Brick Lane far removed from its 1983 counterpart.

Bishopsgate Remnants
This gentlemen takes a break and rests next to the wall which was part of the splendid Bishopsgate goods yard. It was still there a few months ago and I hope it remains.
