Parallel Lives

July 9, 2012

The theory that there exists parallel universes, exactly like our universe has always appealed to me. Equally I can be sympathetic to the idea of ‘parallel lives’. Sometimes I photograph a situation which I feel I had photographed many years before. These three photographs illustrate what I mean. I would say that they illustrate the idea of parallel lives rather crudely because they are similar but not exactly the same in their architecture. As there are so many people in this world I can quite easily believe that many lives are virtually the same. This does not mean that we don’t have free will as individuals where we respond differently to the same circumstance. Its the extraordinary commonality of experience that fascinates me as a photographer. The three boys in these photographs have, I suspect had many similar experiences independently of each other but the outcomes to their lives will also be different.
