Race Relations Act
December 8, 2016
On this day in 1965 a new Race relations Act came into force making racial discrimination unlawful in public places. Discrimination on the “grounds of colour, race, or ethnic or national origins” in public places became a civil (not criminal) offence. The new law did not cover housing or employment. The act did little to combat racism and was amended in subsequent years. Here are some photographs of campaigns against racism.
