Chemist Rush

June 27, 2012

Over the past couple of years I have been prescribed copious amounts of drugs. I now take much less than I did a year ago and am slowly cutting back on the relatively few I take today. Nevertheless every day for the rest of my life I will have to take some tablets. So thanks to my chemist for the magical but sometimes hellish journey it has taken me on. Thanks to the NHS for thousands of free drugs!

I’ve been photographing Sandra for around fifteen years. Half the time she has been running her pub the famous ‘Golden Heart’ in Commercial Street. She has stuck with her pub through hard times and has survived thirty years remaining one of the oldest long term residents around Spitalfields market. Her pub is a landmark which caters for local residents, artists, market workers, tourists and those just passing through.

Sandra is an expert with the Hula Hoop. She has retained the skill she developed as a child and from time to time can still be seen Hula Hooping in or around the pub. In our documentary film, which can be watched online ‘Sandra’ she can be seen Hula Hooping in the bar.

Trees

June 25, 2012

The profuse and varied designs of trees stun us with their amazing beauty. They also hint at aspects of the human body as well as the inventive constructs of the human brain. Lungs, motorways, computer networks, neon lights and so on.

Demolition

June 24, 2012

The building of the new London Hospital meant the demolition of a number of Victorian buildings. Here are a few I photographed before they disappeared:

Splendid Anonymity

June 23, 2012

I wonder who the people are in these photographs? What secrets do they give away even with their paper disguises?
