Horizon Deficit

April 19, 2012

The two cranes (below) heralded the building of the new London hospital. Once built it was to entirely block this view of Canary Wharf.

Vinyl Hoarding

April 18, 2012

I have never got rid of my vast collection of Vinyl LP’s. I marveled at CD’s when they were first invented but never considered them a reason to dump my vinyl collection of mainly classical albums. I now have thousands as I have continued to collect. I am constantly tempted by collections that now litter Brick Lane and other market streets. This photograph is in praise of vinyl and its wonderful accompanying technology. There is surely something reassuring about watching a record go round and round over and over again in contrast to the frigidity of digital technology. Many of the records I have collected over the years are now out of copyright. I’ve digitised many of these and they have usefully found their way into the sound tracks of our films. Vinyl will never die.

Cup of Tea and a Read

April 17, 2012

This man managed a brief glimpse at the camera during his newspaper read in a Whitechapel Cafe.

Two Men in a Liverpool Pub

April 16, 2012

I photographed these two gentlemen in a pub on Lodge Lane known as the ‘Flat House’. I remember it was a weekday afternoon and the pub was fairly busy. Firstly I wondered if the photographs of the Liverpool Pier Head hanging behind the men connected them in any way to the sea. Perhaps they had worked on ships that sailed the world from Liverpool. Anyway I had decided in my head that there was a connection between the men and the nostalgic photographs in the pub.
